Dear Sirs:

\JOver the past few years I have been developing a course which I believe would
make an interesting Computer Science textbook.

I am enclosing two outlines -- one for the last version of an undergraduate
course at UCLA, the second for a graduate reading-and-research course I
am currently teaching at Stanford. The introductory course (E123a) is
approximately ACM's I2, though I believe most of the material is quite manageable
earlier than Junior or Senior level.

The approach is particularly pleasing since it leads rapidly and naturally
to the practical areas of programming language design and implementation
and systems programming, and also to some of the more theoretical areas of current Computer
Science research.

I am currently revising the text to a level somewhere between the introductory
and research course. If such a book would be of interest I would enjoy talking
with one of your representatives.
